Premier Cru Engelgarten – Vinous – 91 Points
Bright straw. Fresh apple, lime, jasmine and minerals on the very Mosel-like nose. Fresh and energetic in the mouth, showing good focus to the bright orchard fruit and citrus peel flavors. Lovely wine. Mathieu Deiss told me that the Engelgarten is a difficult terroir, especially when it gets hot; as the soils are also nitrogen-rich, vigor needs to be reined in. Based on a taste of this wine, I’d say he’s succeeding admirably.
