This is everything you would expect from the California counterpoint to Beaujolais. Delicate, effusively aromatic and effeminate. Bright strawberried fruit with subtle stemmy, herbaceous spice. Charming, elegant and utterly gulpable.
The vines at Barsotti Vineyard are grown in granitic soil at 2,600′ elevation at the edge of the American River Canyon high in the Sierra Foothills. It remains some of the only true Gamay surviving in California. Picked at 21 brix, started by carbonic maceration before being foot trodden and fermented whole cluster. Aged in neutral French Oak for only six months and bottled early to preserve it’s freshness and delicate aromatics.
