tasting notes

Ascheri’s Barolo Sorano is a full bodied, classic Barolo built for the long haul. But it also shows the Ascheri style of elegance and purity. The limestone content of the Sorano in Serralunga soil imparts structure and body to the Nebbiolo grapes. It is the last vineyard to be harvested. Ascheri gives this wine the longest maceration period of his Barolos, but remains vigilant, to avoid the extraction of harsh tannins. The Barolo Sorano has a deep color, a chewy texture, and flavors of ripe black fruits, licorice, truffle and spice. The long, pure finish gives the sensation of sweetness. The Barolo Sorano is an example of why the Gambero Rosso guide describes Ascheri’s wines as “modern in form but extremely classical in substance.”
